The acquisition and adoption of MG as the Company’s global brand in 2007, required that a new design and engineering direction was required. The first vehicle following this direction was MG6. Based on the same platform as Roewe 550, the fastback MG6 was specified, designed and engineered in the UK where the MG brand is best understood. The first introduction of MG6 was in China where SMTC UK’s engineering was adapted and developed by the Shanghai team to suit Chinese market tastes and expectations. This was in parallel with work in the UK where the European specification was developed and certified to meet the re-introduction of the brand into the UK market. The MG6 GT was the first model in an MG product plan on which Corporate growth in Europe will be based.
