What we do
The SMTC UK Electrical Engineering department develops and delivers the electrical systems that customers expect on modern vehicles.
Automotive electrical systems are becoming ever more complex. Today’s car is now a complex embedded system, with more lines of software code than a modern aeroplane. Underneath the skin, a range of electronic control units (ECU's) communicate with each other over in-vehicle networks, controlling vehicle functions ranging from safety systems, to infotainment, comfort and security systems.
With so much complexity involved, SAIC use advanced design, simulation, testing tools and methodologies so that the vehicle systems can undergo intensive testing even before a prototype vehicle is built, in far more scenarios than any driver is likely to encounter on the road. This ensures that the safety and reliability of the in-vehicle systems meet the latest industry standards and customer expectations.
Capabilities within the team include:
- Vehicle network design
- Power distribution design
- Electrical Integration
- Infotainment system development
- Software development
- Control system design
- Mechanical design and packaging
