OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB  
Provide chassis CAD design capability primarily (but not restricted too) subframes and structural chassis parts
 
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES. 
 
For AE Delivery projects (A4-A1 gateways) & Pre A4 advanced technical development & innovation
Responsible for development in 3D CAD of ideas developed by the axles concept team using CATIA V5, primary aim is to develop chassis structure parts but should also act as general CAD resource for the chassis team
Responsible for basic package of key chassis systems
Responsible for the updating/modification of supplier concepts where required to meet package/performance/cost requirments
Ensure that concept designs are optimised and balanced to best meet targets for the project:
        - Package
        - Performance & Safety
        - Vehicle Performance & Safety
        - Cost & Quality
        - System functionality and performance
        - Complexity
        - Ease of manufacture 
Engage stakeholders and customers where necessary to resolve issues and progress the delivery
Manage chassis CAD data tree
Develop global relationships with AE Chassis & Chassis department in China to promote global working – leverage additional CAD services from these departments where skills/resources are not available in the UK
 
SCOPE OF THE JOB  
 
Primary CAD resource for Chassis team, mainly to develop 3D CAD geometry and package key chassis system parts
 
 
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED 
 
Specific Technical job skills required:
Excellent CAD skills in CATIA V5, able to develop ideas developed by technical experts into 3D CAD geometry
2+ years of CATIA V5 experience
10+ years in Chassis Engineering (ideally in an OEM or Tier 1 supplier)
Detailed knowledge of key chassis systems
Understanding of technical system/component development (e.g. DFMEA, DVP, Materials)
Capability to understand chassis architecture principles, knowledge of key competitor practices and trends
Capability to understand chassis architecture system interactions and how they affect performance, package, safety, cost, mass, styling and function
Capability and experience to understand chassis system effects on BIW and associated load path and structural performance
Capability to package chassis system parts as part of a vehicle architecture
Ability to lead CAD based system reviews
Full understanding of the Architecture Development Process and Global Vehicle Development Process
Ability to work under pressure to tight timescales and prioritise individual workload
 
Supporting job skills required:
Ability to lead CAD design reviews
Ability to present reports and or CAD data accurately and coherently and at a senior level – Manager/Director 
Ability to lead internal meetings – specifically internal design/CAD package reviews
Ideally Six Sigma Yellow Belt certified
Good communication skills, ability to work globally and develop global partnership(s)
Flexible, committed and motivated to work on more than one vehicle system at a time
Ability to support business trips (and potentially longer term working) in China
Experience of Supplier / customer interaction
Good organisational & prioritisation skills
Proactive and possesses the ability to work by themselves or part of a team
Has good working knowledge of PC tools Power Point, Word & Excel
Degree/HND or equivalent in Mechanical / Motorsport or Automotive Engineering
Extensive OEM experience, preferably as a member of an OEM chassis team and/or member of a Tier 1 chassis supplier
 
 
RELATING TO PEOPLE EXTERNALLY
 
Ability to work closely with suppliers to develop technical proposals 
 
 
RELATING TO PEOPLE INTERNALLY
 
Role needs to work in full cooperation with Chassis Technical Systems Manager and Chassis technical experts
Close working relationships with technical specialists and engineers within other departments influenced/affected by chassis engineering
 
 
HOURS OF WORK 
 
The employee is required to work 37 hours per week, based on a working week of Monday to Friday. Monday to Thursday 08:00am to 16:45pm and Friday 08:00am to 12:00pm.
